E270 Introduction to Scuba Course (2 cr)

Description:

Basic physics and physiology of skin and scuba diving, in both lecture and pool setting.

Prerequisites:

Good health (E270 and/or R322 may be taken during the same semester).

Fees:

E270 Lab fee of $30 will be assessed at time of registration for lecture and pool sessions. An additional $50 fee will be assessed before the end of the semester for optional Openwater Referral through Indiana University (enables student to complete optional Scuba Certification from any PADI facility worldwide within 12 months of the class).

Class Meeting:

Class meets for one 50 minute Lecture and for one 55 mimute Lab per week. discussion section arranged to complete PADI CD-ROM Openwater Knowledge Review.

Course Objectives: Provide student with basic skills and knowledge for snorkle and scuba diving in a controlled environment. Students have option to complete Scuba Certification with IU or any PADI Facility.

Textbook: Intro to Scuba booklet and PADI Openwater CD-ROM.

Class Procedure: One lectue and one pool session attended each week, with discussion sestion arranged to reivew PADI OW Knowledge Review from CD-ROM.

Grading: Attendance, Final Exam, Sport Diving exam, 4 quizzes, and pool skill evaluation.

Attendance:

Students are allowed a maximum of three (3) absences. Upon a fourth absence, points will be deducted for attendance.

Equipment:

IU will provide all equipment for the pool sessions. However, if students participate in Openwater dives with Indiana University personal mask, fins, snorkel, and wetsuit must be provided by the student.
