right to know: dropping classes and its effect on financial aid

Print this page

If students drop any classes, they could lose eligibility for aid already received.

For students who remain enrolled at least half time (minimum 6 hours undergraduate, 4 hours grad):

If a student drops below full time prior to the end of the fourth week of classes, or before the award has credited, the Indiana Higher Education Award (O'Bannon Grant) will be cancelled.

During fall and spring, the Federal Pell grant will be reduced or cancelled if a student changes enrollment before the end of the first week of classes.(At any time during the summer, a decrease in enrolled credit hours, non-attendance in a class or a total or unofficial withdrawal from classes could result in reduction or repayment of the Federal Pell grant.)

For students who drop below half time (less than 6 hours undergraduate, 4 hour grad):

If a student drops below half time more than 10 days before the first day of classes, all awards will be cancelled--except your Federal Pell grant, which will be reduced or cancelled, depending on the amount of the grant and the EFC. If a student drops below half time later, but is still enrolled in 3 hours, he/she may remain eligible for aid already credited to the Bursar account. However, the student will not receive additional payments for awards that have not yet credited.

If a student drops below half time during the fall semester after receiving the fall disbursement of a full academic year, the spring disbursement will be cancelled.
