March 1 FAFSA Priority Deadline
December 18, 2007
March 1, 2008 is the IUB FAFSA priority deadline for the 2008-2009 academic year. You must complete your 2008-2009 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by March 1 to be considered for the most possible aid. Be sure to include IUB's school code, 001809. The 2008-2009 FAFSA will become available as of January 1, 2008.
You can complete the FAFSA online (www.fafsa.ed.gov ), or by returning a paper copy to the federal processor by mail. Paper copies will no longer be available in our office. To request a paper copy students can call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID. If you complete the FAFSA on paper and mail it in, the form must be received by the federal processor by March 1, 2008 to be considered on-time for the IUB priority deadline. You are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA online if possible.
"Check Your 'To-Do List' and IU email!"
June 05, 2007
A student's "To-Do List" is a helpful resource in determining if there is anything that must be resolved before the processing of financial aid can occur. Students can find important financial aid information, such as the status of their academic progress or the verification program by reviewing their "To-Do List" on the financial aid channel on the Self-Service tab of OneStart.
The University reserves the right to send official communications to students by email with the full expectation that students will receive email and read these emails in a timely fashion. Students are expected to check their email on a frequent and consistent basis in order to stay current with university-related communications. Students must ensure that there is sufficient space in their accounts to allow for email to be delivered. In other words, students should not allow their accounts to become full since important messages then cannot be received, but rather will be returned to the sender. Students have the responsibility to recognize that certain communications may be time-critical.
ACCEPTING, REJECTING, AND REDUCING 2007-08 AWARDS
June 01, 2007
The only award that must be accepted through OneStart is federal work study for freshmen students; all other financial aid is awarded in an accepted status. You may also reject your work study award through OneStart, if you do not want the award. If you would like to reject or reduce an award other than work study, you will need to contact the Office of Student Financial Assistance. For your convenience, please feel free to e-mail the office and state your request, including the name of the award and what adjustment you would like made to the award or complete the on-line Loan Cancellation/Reduction Request Form.
Also, if you have a Federal Stafford Loan master promissory note on file, your loan will disburse to the Office of the Bursar 10 days before classes start. If you wish to cancel the loan and you have a master promissory note on file, you MUST contact the Office of Student Financial Assistance to do so; if you do not request to cancel the loan, the funds will be sent to the Office of the Bursar automatically since the master promissory note is on file.
Students can designate individuals for 3rd party access to view financial aid information
March 09, 2007
Beginning in Spring 2007 students at IU Bloomington now have the ability to authorize another person, such as a parent or guardian, to view financial aid information in the Student Information System (SIS) through OneStart (https://onestart.iu.edu ). Students may revoke authorization at any time by removing permission from a third party viewer through OneStart. Please note that this authorization does not grant access to personal information through other methods, such as email or phone, but it does give this authorized person a way to see a financial aid package through the web.
To set up an authorized viewer, students should log into OneStart using their IU Network ID username and password, click the Self Service tab, and in the Personal Info channel use the "Assign Access to 3rd Parties (Parents/Guardians)" link. Students must create a unique username and password for each authorized viewer. To access the student's information the authorized viewer would click the Public Services tab in OneStart and select the "View Student Information" link, using their authorized viewer username and password.
Detailed instructions regarding this service are available through the University Information Technology Services Knowledge Base at: http://kb.iu.edu/data/auoz.html
