What is Sunflower?
As a cooperative, parents are responsible for running Sunflower, working
several hours a week in exchange for low fees and a sense of community.
Since IU takes care of the building and provides work-study employees,
it is preferred that our members be affiliated with the University.
However, when we have unfilled spaces members of the Bloomington community are also welcomed.
Ages and Number of Children
Newly enrolled children range in age from
one year to thirty (30) months.
Sunflower currently has a maximum full-time enrollment of nine children at one time.
We prefer an adult to child ration of one to three; however, at all times a
ratio of at least one adult to four children is maintained.
Holidays
Sunflower is closed during holidays at IU, including breaks, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and the 4th of July.
However, Sunflower may be open during a holiday upon agreement of all the members.
Fees
Current fees for full-time care are $175.00 per month per child.
Hours
Our standard hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, but this is dependent upon the needs of our membership. Sunflower members may vote to change the hours of availability.
Enrollment
Sunflower currently has openings for membership. Sunflower operates on a first-come-first-served basis. If you and your child are or will be in need of child care,
apply now and we will arrange a time for you to meet us, have a tour of the facility and discuss next steps.
