Dr. Michael Schwartzkopf, Director

Professor of Music at Indiana University, Dr. Michael Schwartzkopf is the music director of the Singing Hoosiers. He teaches conducting and choral music education courses and conducts musical theater productions for the Jacobs School of Music and the Theater Department. In demand as an adjudicator, lecturer, clinician, and festival conductor, he has conducted choirs throughout the United States, Europe, and Canada. As a singer/performer, Professor Schwartzkopf has performed in the theaters, on the concert stages, and in the cathedrals of Europe and the United States in a wide variety of styles ranging from popular music, musical theater, and the entire spectrum of classical music.

Dr. Schwartzkopf is a member of the Alliance of Distinguished Rank Professors at Indiana University, holds the Pam and Jack Burks Professorship Chair in Music, and received the Singing Hoosiers Distinguished Alumni Award in 1993. His philosophy of music is reflected in his diverse involvement and activity in the areas of performance, conducting, teaching, and administration.
