Varsity Singers
The Varsity
Singers are the choreographic unit of the Singing Hoosiers and
consist of approximately 22-26 members. Varsity helps add that extra
razzle-dazzle that makes our concerts standout from other collegiate
choruses. The dancing done in Varsity ranges from musical theatre
staging to ballet, tap, jazz, and funk. Varsity auditions are held
at the beginning of each semester. Generally, two or three dance
combinations, ranging in different styles, are taught by the student
choreographer and then the final audition is judged by the director,
choreographer, and graduate assistant. Varsity members are, of
course, first auditioned as singers to be in the Singing Varsity works like a choreographic workshop, rehearsing up to six hours a week. Throughout its history, members of the Varsity have helped in the creation of choreography by aiding the choreographer or choreographing their own number for the ensemble. Members of the Varsity Singers take great pride in being in this prestigious ensemble. As a result of their hard work and dedication many former members of Varsity have gone on professionally to work as performers, dancers, and/or choreographers in the world of musical theater and entertainment.
