So you want to be an SLS intern?

As an intern, you will interview clients, draft demand letters and pleadings and, as you gain experience, you will also negotiate with the opposing party and represent clients in court.

Preference will be given in hiring to those interns interested in taking class credit for their first semester. You may be eligible for work-study or you may be paid hourly for subsequent semesters. Depending on your employment status, you will be expected to work between 10-16 hours per week.

Your internship will begin with an interviewing and counseling training session taught by one of the attorneys. You will begin interviewing your own clients within two weeks. There will also be supplementary classes covering researching Indiana law, fundamental law office computer skills, and practical lectures on landlord/tenant law, criminal law, family law and administrative law.

We usually hire between 5-10 interns to begin in May and 5-10 additional interns to begin in August. If you are interested in becoming an intern, please submit a recent resume along with a cover letter to:

Stacee E. Evans
Student Legal Services
703 East Seventh Street
Bloomington, IN 47405

To be considered, please submit your resume no later than April 15. Please indicate whether you are interested in an internship which starts in May or August.
