The Gender, Race, and Class Workshop is a special community of graduate students and selective faculty that come together in a comfortable, round table environment which gives great feedback on projects at all levels ranging from works in progress to dissertation chapters and published articles. The scholarly works presented in GRC are on pertinent issues relating to race, class, gender, and/or inequality. This semester features some intriguing research being conducted by graduate students in the Department of Sociology. Like in years past, the GRC Workshop is sponsoring a departmental colloquium that features Associate Professor Prudence Carter from Harvard University, who recently had an awarding book entitled, Keepin’ It Real: School Success Beyond Black and White. Recent GRC colloquium visitors include Tukufu Zuberi, Professor of Sociology, Lasry Family Professor of Race Relations, and Director of the Center for Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania and author of Thicker than Blood: How Racial Statistics Lie, and Deirdre Royster, Associate Professor at William and Mary College and author of Race and the Invisible Hand: How White Networks Exclude Black Men from Blue Collar Jobs.
