Welcome to Indiana University’s Department of Sociology. Our department has a long-standing tradition of intellectual vitality, research excellence and commitment to training new generations of graduate and undergraduate students. In a discipline experiencing increasing specialization, we pride ourselves on a department where faculty and graduate student interests are diverse and span the breadth of the discipline. Substantive areas of specialization range from macro to micro and methodological expertise encompasses a wide range of methods from cutting edge quantitative models and experimental designs to qualitative studies using ethnographic and historical materials. We also value and nurture a strong spirit of community and collegiality that we see as central to the intellectual vitality of our department.
