Associate Director/Study Director
Rank Code: RSS

The Social Science Research Commons (SSRC), the Department of Sociology and the Karl F. Schuessler Institute for Social Research invite applications for the position of Associate Director of the SSRC and SRP Study Director. This is a full-time position at the rank of Research Associate.  The position has two primary components. First, working with the director of the SSRC, the Associate Director will help to organize interdisciplinary research seminars, oversee the planning of workshops in research methods, and, more broadly, work with the SSRC director and staff in facilitating research oriented activities of the social science faculty on the Bloomington campus. Second, the Associate Director will serve as Study Director for the Sociological Research Practicum (SRP). The SRP is an annual research and graduate training project –often using phone surveys, but at times interviews, observations and archival research -- that engages graduate students in original data collection on a faculty research project.  The Study Director works closely with the faculty investigator to design the project and with graduate students on data collection. Duties include, but are not limited to: working with the faculty investigator to implement research project design; designing data collection instruments (i.e. survey, interview schedule); coordinating with Center for Survey Research for data collection as needed; organizing, planning and supervising student training on data collection; monitoring and tracking progress on data collection; cleaning and preparing data for analysis; maintaining the data archive; monitoring and administering SRP budget and project costs; and working with computer support personnel to assure necessary technical resources for SRP.  PhD in a social science discipline or related field is preferred. Candidates with an MA degree and considerable research experience will also be considered. Experience collecting and analyzing social science data is necessary.  Experience with diverse research methods is a plus.  Salary will be commensurate with experience.  Review of applications will begin June 17, 2013 and continue until the position is filled.  Applicants should submit a letter of application describing research and data collection experience and Curriculum Vitae. Three letters of recommendation should be sent under separate cover.
