Project Engage Fellow
Professor Eder is creating a 200-level course on Knowledge and Community that will be the first service-learning course to be offered through the Hutton Honors College. This course is similar to one currently being offered as a 400-level seminar in sociology. Both courses focus on providing students with alternative models of learning from cultures from around the world, including “care ethics” and storytelling, and developing a sense of community. Students will learn about teaching through the oral tradition and how children can develop their own sense of community and ethics from these traditions and models of learning. In addition, students will have the opportunity to apply their coursework through developing and participating in storytelling clubs in elementary and after-school settings. For more information about either course, please visit mypage.iu.edu/~eder/ or the attached PDF.
