Donna Eder is a Professor of Sociology at Indiana University. She has written numerous journal articles and book chapters in the areas of gender, schooling, and women's culture. Her book, School Talk: Gender and Adolescent Culture, is an in-depth study of middle-school peer cultures and the ways in which they maintain and resist gender stereotypes. Her current research involves in-depth interviews with storytellers from different cultures to better understand the role of storytelling in teaching about social differences and social dynamics. She will also be doing group interviews with elementary students to identify how stories teach them to view differences across groups of people and cultures. One of her current hobbies is Chinese Painting and Calligraphy which she teaches in her spare time. Having studied these art forms along with Tai Chi, she hopes to bring a centerness to her teaching in all areas. She also likes spending time with kids and helps as a counsellor at Friends Nature Day Camp in the summer where she teaches peace-keeping skills.
