Elizabeth Anne Martinez
Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, I received my B.A. in Sociology from Seattle Pacific University. After graduating from SPU, I worked for a nonprofit organization before entering the IU sociology graduate program in 2011. My research interests include stratification, education, immigration, and race/ethnicity. My Masters project, in progress, examines the relationship between school-based social capital and educational attainment of Latinos across generations. Using data from the nationally representative Educational Longitudinal Study of 2002 (ELS: 2002), my project uses quantitative data analysis to examine how school social factors – peer networks, relationships with teachers, and participation in school-sponsored activities – influence the educational attainment of Latinos.
