Timothy L. O'Brien
Tim O'Brien is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at Indiana University and a current recipient of Indiana University's College of Arts and Sciences Dissertation Year Research Fellowship. Tim received his Master’s degree from Indiana University in 2008 for his research on the careers of scientists. More recently, his work has focused on the intersection of science and other social institutions including law, the justice system, and politics. His dissertation, "Witnessing Authority: The Admissibility of Expert Testimony in Courts" examines the use of expert witnesses in American courts, and focuses on the ways that expertise is presented, contested, and decided in the legal system. Since coming to IU, Tim has taught classes on introductory sociology, social theory, and quantitative research methods.
