Quincy Thomas Stewart
Professor
Quincy Thomas Stewart completed his undergraduate training in
Interdisciplinary Studies at Norfolk State University (1996). He received
his Ph.D. in Demography and Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania in
2001. His research interests pertain to demography, social inequality, and
methodology. Specifically, he is interested in the social processes that
create inequalities in socioeconomic status, health and mortality. He is
currently working on several theoretical papers that critically examine the
methods social scientists use to examine group difference. Additionally, he
is working on several empirical projects that pertain to relative
deprivation, race, socioeconomic status and health outcomes in the U.S. and
Sub-Saharan Africa. This work focuses on the conceptualization and
measurement of inequality, the empirical validity of theories about social
inequality, and the indirect estimation of mortality.
