Lisa M. Warner

After spending my first eighteen years in rural Kentucky, I attended Indiana University for my undergraduate education, where I majored in Sociology and minored in Human Development and Family Studies. Upon receiving my BA in 2006, I entered the graduate program at IU. My primary research and teaching interests are sociology of the family, the life course, and race, class, and gender.
I completed my MA in 2008. My Master’s paper explored self-interests and symbolic politics as predictors of support for family policies in the United States. Currently, I am working on a paper that examines the representation over time of professional and lay parenting expertise in parenting magazines.
I plan to take my qualifying exam this year in sociology of the family, with an emphasis on parenthood. Along with qualifying, I hope to complete my coursework this year, including a minor in Social Science Research Methods and the Preparing Future Faculty sequence. I am also currently teaching a service-learning course “Community Problems and Outreach” though in the past I have taught “Gender Roles” and “The Family”
I live in Indianapolis with my husband, Jon, and our cat, Josephine. I enjoy reading, running, exploring the city, traveling, and watching movies.
