Christopher M. Whitsel

Christopher WhitselChristopher M. Whitsel is from Traverse City, Michigan. After earning a BA in Social Sciences form Bethel College he spent 2 years teaching English in Uzbekistan. After returning from Uzbekistan he entered Indiana University to study in both the Sociology and Central Eurasian Studies departments. His dissertation focuses on increases in educational inequality in Post-Soviet Tajikistan. His dissertation analyzes both household surveys and interviews with Tajikistani adults to better understand trends in educational inequality and mechanisms generating the patterns. He has taught Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems and Perspectives: Global Society, and Contemporary Society in Central Asia. Chris continues to be involved in the Central Eurasian region working with his own not-for profit and other agencies supporting the development of the region.
