Social Entrepreneurship Internship Program: Host Sites

The following organizations hosted Social Entrepreneurship intern projects during the Summer 2007.

Bloomington

Middle Way House, Bloomington – Developing a 3-year marketing and operational plan to improve the competitiveness, community visibility, and financial viability of their social enterprise: Confidential Document Destruction.

Indianapolis

Eli Lilly Company, Indianapolis and Geneva, Switzerland – Continuing to develop and promote the current MDR-TB partnership, particularly improving internal and external marketing plans, materials, and operations – emphasizing increased internal awareness, effective intra-agency communication within the 15 members of the international partnership, and heightened public awareness of the prevalence of MDR-TB and Lilly’s role in stopping it.

Eli Lilly and Co, Indianapolis and Geneva, Switzerland and IMPACT: WHO Anti-Counterfeiting Taskforce, Geneva, Switzerland – Helping support IMPACT, an international anti-counterfeit campaign to combat counterfeit drugs and to assist the Communications Working Group of the WHO in developing a program to raise awareness of the issue from a public health perspective.

Girls Incorporated of Indianapolis – Conducting a feasibility study of eight to ten social entrepreneurship ideas; identifying the top three that best align with the Girls Incorporated mission, generate revenue, and cultivate community connections; and developing a business plan for each to aid Girls Incorporated leadership in making final program decisions.

The Indiana Youth Institute, Indianapolis – Evaluating the feasibility and opportunities of expanding the operation of a health insurance program for area youth agencies and developing a marketing plan for promoting the program.

ITT Educational Services, Inc., Indianapolis – Assisting the Accreditation Department to conduct a preliminary self-study of institutional processes and performance outcomes in order to develop and execute a preliminary proposal to secure regional accreditation for 91 ITT Technical Institute campuses across the country.

Other Internship Locations

Cook/French Lick Resort Casino, French Lick, Indiana – Developing a 3-5 year Community Benefit Plan to encourage economic development, education, and historic preservation throughout Orange County; and implementing initial projects and developing partnerships as appropriate.

Fordham Foundation, Dayton, Ohio – Conducting analysis and business planning to streamline the Foundation’s Charter School Sponsorship Program, including an in-depth business and program assessment, assessing political and environmental indicators that impact charter school sponsorship, and developing multiple business plans to prepare the program to respond to a variety of potential political and business environments.

Pfizer, Inc., New York City – Assisting in the development of The Alliance for Health and the Future, working with the International Longevity Centres, to encourage greater societal awareness of issues relating to healthy aging.

The following organizations hosted Social Entrepreneurship intern projects during the Summer 2006.

Bloomington

Eppley Institute for Parks and Public Lands, Bloomington/IU – Working with the National Park Service to develop a business plan to improve the use, marketing, and financial viability of their training facilities and programs.

Middle Way House, Bloomington – Developing a three-year business, financial, and marketing plan to increase the profitability of its two existing social enterprise programs (Confidential Document Destruction and FoodWorks);

Volunteers in Medicine (VIM), Bloomington – Researching alternative funding and organizational approaches and developing a detailed business plan to create, fund, organize, and operate a VIM clinic in Bloomington.  Criteria include developing needed approaches to coordinate efforts with existing nonprofit and public health programs, organizations, and agencies in Monroe County.

Indianapolis

Clarian Health Partners, Indianapolis – Quantifying and identifying outcomes for their Community Benefit program and to help develop system-wide criteria for reporting and evaluating Community Benefit efforts.

Eli Lilly Company, Indianapolis and Geneva, Switzerland – Evaluating the operation and improving the impact of a multi-agency international collaborative to provide effective distribution of a vaccine to combat Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in third world countries.

Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana, Inc., Indianapolis – Developing a Work-Readiness training program that is integrated with current Goodwill programs and better prepares workers for future job placement

The Indiana Youth Institute, Indianapolis – Evaluating its current social enterprise Evaluation Associates and developing plans to expand the program to a higher operational and financial level.
