4th Annual MLK Celebration a Big Hit

More than eighty kids came to the IU School of Education for the fourth annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Activity Day. Event organizer Leanna McClain, Clinical Lecturer in Curriculum and Instruction/Language Education, said it’s the biggest group of children the school’s hosted since she started the program.

The children in the age range of 1st through 5th grades came from the Banneker Center, Girls, Inc., the RISE and Campus View Apartments. They participated in activities from early morning to late afternoon highlighting music, storytelling, math activities and sciences experiments. Every participant won a prize, got to take home a book about Dr. King plus another book, and collected a bag of school supplies. The students enjoyed live music during lunch and during a late afternoon assembly.
