Transportable Living and the Landscape
February 6, 2008 at 2:00 pmThis month, SoFA features an exciting multi-media event Fusion Culture: Transportable Living and the Landscape, an exhibition of sculpture, installation photography and video by artist Sarah FitzSimons.
FitzSimons work explores ideas about environmental change related to global warming and the inventions created by visual artists in response to these changes. Utilizing combinations of sculpture, outdoor installation, photography and video, FitzSimons explorations see her intimately collaborate with oceans, deserts, rivers, and mountain ranges, investigating collisions of the physical and metaphoric.
Currently Visiting Professor in sculpture and foundations at Ohio University, FitzSimons has exhibited widely across the United States, with a permanent sculpture placed in Joshua Tree, California. FitzSimons work will be on display at SoFA gallery February 22 – March 7, 2008. A lecture will accompany the exhibition on Friday, February 22, 2008 beginning at 6:00 pm in Fine Arts building 102, followed by an Opening Reception at SoFA gallery.
