Edward (Ed) B. Montgomery

Edward Montgomery is dean of the Georgetown University Public Policy Institute (GPPI). Previously Montgomery served on President Obama’s Auto Task Force and as Executive Director of the White House Council for Auto Communities and Workers. Under President Clinton he served as Deputy Secretary and Chief Operating Officer at the U.S. Department of Labor after holding appointments as Assistant Secretary for Policy and as Chief Economist for the Department of Labor.

Montgomery has also had a rich career in higher education. He has held faculty positions at the University of Maryland, Michigan State University, and Carnegie Mellon University, and visiting positions at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve and The Urban Institute. He also served as the Dean of the University of Maryland’s College of Behavioral and Social Sciences.

He holds a B.S. in economics with honors from Pennsylvania State University, as well as an A.M. and Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
