Health Reform in a Nutshell

Rising health care costs and the large number of uninsured are vexing public policy issues in the U.S. Although the comprehensive new law known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was enacted last year to “overhaul” the U.S. health care system, there is confusion about what it encompasses, and what it is expected to do when its main provisions are implemented in 2014. In this Insight brief, Professor Simon provides a short summary of the ACA’s main features from an economist’s perspective and comments on likely impacts and issues.
