SPEA Alumnus Steve Eller, BSPA’84 Honored for 25 Consecutive Years of Giving to IU

Steve Eller graduated from SPEA in 1984, earning a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs with a concentration in Personnel and Labor Relations. He said, “IU provided me a foundation for my professional career. I would not have achieved my professional goals without my education from SPEA in Bloomington.”

In his current role as Vice President of Human Resources for Beacon Health System, Eller has complete responsibility for Human Resources across the corporation.

One of Eller’s passions is mentoring students entering the professional world. “I believe in the importance of giving back to Indiana University,” he said. “Mentoring is a great way for me to do that. I truly enjoy mentoring students, speaking in the classroom, and participating in panel discussions on campus. If a few minutes of my time can make a positive impact on a student that pays dividends for the individual as well as for the university.”

“No matter how big or small or what you can afford, be it financially or time out of your schedule, every contribution will help the students. The key is to grow this concept exponentially,” Eller said. He continued pointing out that if all alumni were to give back that the culmination of even the small gifts and activities would be profound for current students. Eller hopes that he is setting an example that existing students will some day follow.

While his motivations for giving are largely altruistic, Eller noted that his ongoing connections with and giving to SPEA and IU are very rewarding, acknowledging that he feels a sense of pride knowing that he is giving back to IU students.

To honor Eller and thank him for 25 consecutive years of giving to IU, in June he was presented with an elegant, inscribed clock from the Indiana University Foundation.

Eller currently serves as the President for the SPEA Alumni Association Board of Directors. He frequently speaks at campus functions and presents in undergraduate Human Resource classes. He also serves as a member of both the Supply Chain Academy Board through the Kelley School of Business as well as the Executive Council for the Alumni Association. Eller lives in Granger, Indiana. He is the proud father of two children, Ashley (19) and Michael (15).
