IU in DC Washington Leadership Program

young professional maleThe IU in DC Washington Leadership Program provides IU undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the fast-paced world of Washington, D.C. politics, policy, public affairs, and more. In the classroom and through exciting internships, students participate fully in the city's workaday world, conducting research, preparing briefings, and honing a wide range of other professional skills.

In today's ultra-competitive job market, having an internship under your belt can make all the difference.  IU in DC students intern four full days a week in a variety of interesting and challenging assignments ranging from government agencies to congressional offices to non-profit organizations.

Participants earn twelve credits hours for their semester in DC: six for the internship and three for each of two immersive courses taught by experienced Washington veterans.  Combining top-flight classroom learning with the internship of a lifetime, IU in DC Programs present a special opportunity for IU students to learn from expert instructors, gain valuable professional experience, and develop friendships that will last a lifetime.

The WLP has something for all majors and interests, but students interested in health policy will have the special opportunity to take a course on how health policy is formed in the United States. This course will allow students to dive into the complex and dynamic world of health care policy and examine the role government plays in various aspects of health policy.
