For the past 25 years, the Washington Leadership Program has given IU students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the fast-paced world of Washington, D.C. politics, policy, public affairs, and more. In the classroom and through exciting internships, you participate fully in the city’s workaday world, conducting research, preparing briefings, and honing a wide range of other professional skills.
“If you’re interested in public policy, in participating in local or national politics, and in better understanding the national political scene, this is a semester that’s going to provide you exposure to public policy like no other semester. You’re learning it, living it, and even in your free time talking about politics and policy, and you’re not going to get that in any other town.” -Donna McLean, Faculty Director WLP
WLP students intern at a wide-variety variety of agencies and organizations and can tailor their internship experience to their particular policy or issue area of interest. In addition, particpants take two courses that focus broadly on policy processes in the U.S.
