Indiana University Launches Online Master’s Degree From the Number Two Ranked School of Public Affairs
Bloomington, Indiana --
Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) launches online master’s degree in public affairs through SPEA Connect. With recent approval from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE), SPEA becomes the highest ranked MPA program, #2 according to U.S. News and World Report, to make its degree completely available in an online format. The online MPA allows distance learning students and working professionals access to a top-ranked public affairs program that will allow them to continue their careers while learning new skills and furthering their public affairs expertise.
SPEA Connect, a joint initiative between IU-Bloomington and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, leverages SPEA’s top-ranked curriculum and faculty to deliver an online MPA that meets the professional development and career needs of the 21st century workforce without sacrificing the rigor of SPEA’s curriculum.
“Online education enables SPEA to effectively reach working professionals and allows us to help fill a critical need in their professional development and careers,” said SPEA Dean John D. Graham. “Our MPA program produces graduates with strong problem-solving and analytical skills and is additionally coupled with a sound interdisciplinary approach. Our online MPA students will meet the same standards for quality and academic rigor as their on-campus peers.”
SPEA’s online MPA is an ideal solution for students and professionals who are unable to access academic training and professional development in a traditional setting. In today’s challenging economic environment, many professionals are simply unable or unwilling to commit to a full-time graduate degree program that could force them to uproot families and put their careers on hold. SPEA Connect allows distance learners around the world to earn a prestigious degree without having to move to Indiana.
“We believe our online MPA is an ideal opportunity for mid-career professionals, whether they are located in Washington DC or Kinshasa, Congo to further their knowledge and career prospects without having to leave their families and jobs,” said Distinguished Professor James Perry. Professor Perry is the director of online education at SPEA and has worked closely with his faculty colleagues to design and deliver online curriculum that will meet the diverse needs of online students and working professionals.
Not only will the SPEA Connect online MPA provide access to a top-ranked public affairs program, the degree will offer great value when compared to its residential and online peers. “As a top-ranked public affairs program, SPEA is highly sensitive to the potential debt-burden that graduate education can bring and SPEA Connect’s tuition levels have been set to reflect the public nature of our school,” said SPEA Executive Associate Dean David Reingold.
In addition to the online MPA degree program, SPEA Connect also allows students the opportunity to pursue online graduate certificates in Public and Nonprofit Management. SPEA Connect also plans to begin offering an online graduate certificate in Public Budgeting and Financial Management in the near future.
