SPEA Gala and Auction 2012
You're Invited: 2012 SPEA Auction and Gala!
Founded in 2005, the SPEA Auction and Gala is a student-driven initiative that raises money for graduate student unpaid or minimally paid internships and professional development grants. Last year, the Auction and Gala raised over $10,000 thanks to the support of faculty, staff, students (prospects and current) as well as community members.
Please join us for the 2012 SPEA Auction and Gala. The event will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. - the evening of SPEA's Experience Day! Current SPEA alumni, faculty, staff and students will be in attendance and hope to see you there too. As an Experience Day attendee, your ticket is on us! There will be more information to follow which will be included in your preference form that allows us to prepare for your participation in SPEA's Experience Day.
For questions regarding the Gala, please contact speainfo@indiana.edu.
We hope to see you there!
FAQs
Our Gala/Auction Chair, Leslie Butwin (MPA '12), has provided a quick FAQ all about the event!
As a reminder, Experience Day attendees' tickets will be comped by the Masters Program Office. Tickets for partners and friends can be purchased at the door for $20. The event will be held this Friday, March 30 at Alumni Hall in the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU).
“What do I wear?”
The event is cocktail attire. Think wedding. Think classy wedding where other guests are also your classmates, professors and other faculty members.
“What happens?”
The event starts out with a silent auction. There’s lots of mingling, bidding (yes, lots and lots of bidding), etc. You grab a drink, maybe a plate of food, and go check out some of the cool items your friends and classmates have procured. You say hi to your favorite professor. You get your picture taken with friends at our photo booth. Maybe you give a high five to the wonderful committee members.
At about 9:30 p.m., we will start the live auction. This is fun fun fun. You do not want to miss it.
“What kind of items will be available?”
I hate to spoil the surprises, but I do know you want to budget. So, there are quite a few gift certificates, jewelry, sports memorabilia, etc. in the silent auction. We have gardening lessons, movie and show tickets, and free games of bowling. It is all over the board. The packages are extra fun and creative this year – we are very excited!
The live auction consists of a few “weekend away” packages as well as a number of events hosted by professors. You’ve heard about Sushi & Sake. Well, it’s back! Dr. Brass & Dr. Baggetta are hosting an African dinner for 6 and Professor Ursey will host 4 people for a day at his goat farm. We even have a chocolate tasting at Blu Boy.
Our complete live auction list will be in the program.
“Is there dancing?”
Nope, but Hayley has planned a night out after at the Bluebird. Ask our current students about the event throughout Experience Day if you would like to join. You can bid your heart out and then dance your heart out after the event.
“How can I pay for items if interested?”
You can pay with cash or check. Checks can be made out to “SPEA Auction and Gala.”
“Will there be food and a bar?”
Why yes! There is amazing food provided and a cash bar. Actually, 2 bars this year.
