Admission Criteria
Admission to the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) is competitive and is based on academic record. Student must complete admission requirements prior to application.
When making admissions decisions, the SPEA Admissions Committee reviews each application, looking for strong and consistent academic performance. We take into consideration things such as:
- IU grade trends and patterns
- cumulative GPA
- admission course GPA
- application semester GPA
In consideration for admissions we will also review your professional statement, which is included on the application.
Students will be considered for admission if they meet all of the following requirements. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission.
Admissions Requirements: (except for Arts Management program--see below)
The student should have:
- completed 26 credit hours and a maximum of 75 credit hours with a minimum 2.30 (C+) cumulative grade point average.
- completed (with a C grade or better) any of the following SPEA introductory courses:
- V160: National & International Policy (V170 from a regional campus)
- V161: Urban Problems and Solutions (V264 from a regional campus)
- E162: Environment and People
- E272: Introduction to Environmental Science
The student should have:
- completed 26 credit hours and a maximum of 75 credit hours with a minimum 2.7 (B-) cumulative grade point average.
- completed (with a grade C or better) the following SPEA introductory course:
