What's the difference between Environmental Management and Environmental Science through SPEA?
First, the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (BSES) and the Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs, Environmental Management major are two very different degrees with very different coursework. If you're interested in both but not sure which one to pursue, plan to meet with a SPEA advisor early to help you decide.
The BSES is a rigorous, multidisciplinary science curriculum that focuses on the research and theory of environmental science. The Environmental Management major takes a broader approach, and though students get a grounding in environmental science topics, they also study policy, risk assessment, and environmental law. This allows graduates from the program to serve as the translators between the hard science and the policies and practices that governments, organizations, and businesses implement.
