How to Apply
Priority Deadline: Tuesday, December 9, 2014, 5 p.m.
Applicants that submit materials by this deadline receive priority consideration for the fall 2015 WLP class.
Final Deadline: Friday, February 13, 2015, 5 p.m.
Applicants that submit materials by this deadline will only be considered if space still exists for the fall 2015 WLP class.
- Online application demographic information
- A cover letter that addresses the bulleted questions on the application.
- A professional copy of your resume. We recommend you visit SPEA’s Career Development Office for a review of your resume before submitting it to the WLP.
- One letter of recommendation from a current or former professor, work supervisor, advisor, or individual in a position to support your application. You will be asked to enter the name and contact (email address) for the recommender of choice. The recommender will receive a “prompt” to submit a letter on your behalf. Give your recommender ample time to draft your letter. We recommend you speak with your recommender about your interest in WLP and share your cover letter and resume.
Applications without a letter of recommendation will not be accepted or reviewed.
Information for Finalists
If you are selected as a finalist for the WLP program, you will be invited to schedule an interview. Our selection committee will conduct the interview which—along with the online application materials—will assist in making the final selections. The committee will be comprised of at least three members which may include the WLP program director, a SPEA faculty member, an advisor or administrator from SPEA or other IU departments, and WLP alumni.
A great way to prepare for this interview is to schedule a mock interview with SPEA’s Career Development Office for feedback on your interview dress code, technique, and responses.
Finalists will be notified of the interview schedule early in the spring 2015 semester.
We anticipate that priority finalists will be interviewed at the end of January and, if openings remain in the fall 2015 WLP class, applicants who met the final deadline will be interviewed in mid- to late February.
Selection is based on academic record (transcripts will be obtained and reviewed for all applicants); the online application that includes a cover letter and resume, and the letter of recommendation. The applicant’s cover letter, resume, and recommendation will provide the review committee with valuable information regarding the candidate’s student leadership, community service and professional experience
The WLP fall class will be named no later than March 15, 2015.
Selected students will be required to accept their seat in WLP by a deadline soon after. A wait-list will be established in the case that any of the original invitees are unable to participate.
