These apartments offer a safe, convenient, and comfortable location for interns close to public transportation.
The building includes a 24-hour security desk with security cameras as well as Residence Assistants (RA) for each floor of the building with one RA on call at all times. The facility includes utilities (water, electricity, gas, garbage, cable TV and Internet).
More specific information about move-in procedures, amenities, costs and roommate selection are provided to participants at orientation.
Participants are responsible for their individual transportation to and from Washington, DC as well as througout the semester to and from work and classes.
Reagan National Airport (DCA) is the closest to Silver Spring, directly connected to the Metro which is cheaper transportation and more convenient then rental car or taxi. Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) has a Metro shuttle available, but it's approximately a 45 minute ride into DC. Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) is also close to the DC metropolitan area, and tends to have substantially cheaper flights but public transportation to DC tends to be more complicated.
Once in DC, the most economical form of transportation is the rapid transit system, the Metro. Most students find that that the Metro is sufficient for their travel needs in DC and do not require a car for their semester in Washington. The apartments are within walking distance of a Metro station, and this is the means by which students travel to their internships, classes, and most social outings. The Metro is a safe, convenient, and affordable way to get around the entire Washington area, including northern Virginia and southern Maryland. There are options such as Zipcar for students who infrequently need a car.
