Undergraduate Admission Criteria


Admission to the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) is competitive and is based on academic record and space available in SPEA. Students will be considered for admission if they meet all of the following requirements. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission.

SPEA Admissions Requirements: (except for Arts Administration program)


The student should have:

  • completed 26 credit hours and a maximum of 75 credit hours with a 2.30 (C+) cumulative grade point average.
  • completed (with a C grade or better) any of the following SPEA introductory courses:
    V160: National & International Policy (V170 from a regional campus),
    V161: Urban Problems and Solutions (V264 from a regional campus),
    E162: Environment and People, or
    E272: Introduction to Environmental Science.


Arts Management Admission Requirements:

The student should have:

  • completed 26 credit hours and a maximum of 75 credit hours with a 3.0 (B) cumulative grade point average.
  • completed the following SPEA introductory course:
    SPEA A163 Art Worlds: Management, Markets, and Policy*
    * Students applying to the program before this course is offered (spring 2008) will be expected to take the course prior to graduation to complete degree requirements.

NOTE: When making admissions decisions, the SPEA Admissions Committee reviews each application, looking for strong and consistent academic performance. We take into consideration things such as:

  • IU grade trends and patterns
  • cumulative GPA
  • admission course GPA
  • application semester GPA
In consideration for admissions we will also review your professional statement, which is included on the application, along with optional letters of recommendation.


APPLICATION DEADLINES:

Deadlines for application are May 1st for the fall semester and December 1st for the spring semester. The application can be completed online.
