Frank J. Vilardo
Associate Professor
Dr.P.H., University of North Carolina, 1971
|
Professor Vilardo's research and teaching interests are in the broad area of public and private health administration. Within that area, he is interested in injuries as a public health problem. He approaches injury control from a behavioral perspective. He has studied the ways in which drunk driver countermeasures are developed and delivered at local and state levels. He has also studied state capabilities in dealing with transportation incidents involving radioactive materials and different organization models designed to enforce local retail food inspection laws. Much of his research has involved program evaluation and system development.
He has used and has access to the national traffic accident data base (National Accident Sampling System) and the Indiana State Police accident files. Both of these provide valuable data for policy interpretations, problem definitions, or program evaluation studies.
Professor Vilardo is a former member of the Board of Directors of Bloomington Hospital and Board Chairman, also the Monroe County Health Board, Community Healthcare Foundation Board, and the editorial board for the Journal of Safety Research. His publications have appeared in Journal of Environmental Health, Risk Analysis, Journal of Safety Research and the Proceedings of the Society of Automotive Engineers, American Public Health Association, and American Association of Automotive Medicine.
