Alums Colin Jones, Kyle Cox, and
Marie Johns prove it’s not
just about winning or losing . . .
It's How You Play the Game
Reflections on Election Day 2006. For some, it was the light at the end of a long, exhausting, yet exhilarating campaign trail and the beginning of a new career. For others, the passing of Election Day simply delivered a mailbox free from election literature and the evening news sans those often-biting campaign commericals.
The political climate is undeniably hot in the wake of this pivotal election cycle. Before all eyes turn toward 2008, we thought you would enjoy hearing firsthand campaign reports directly from members of our SPEA alumni family who have been in the thick of political battles across the country.
In the case of Senator Richard Lugar’s (R-Ind.) re-election campaign, calling it a political battle is an overstatement. Senator Lugar won his bid for re-election with a landslide victory of 87 percent of the vote. Colin Jones (BSPA ’02) was part of the senior senator’s sixth race to extend his 30-year Senate career.

Kyle Cox’s experience on the campaign trail during John Kerry’s (D-Mass.) unsuccessful bid for the Democratic presidential nomination brought him into contact with Hilary Clinton...and the Black-Eyed Peas.
Glad to meet you,” he said. “Don’t kill me.”
These were the first words John Kerry said to me as I was picking him up from Indianapolis International Airport to attend a fundraiser in early 2002. This began a two-year journey that I will never forget.
