Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences

Indiana University's Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences offers a broad range of academic opportunities, research programs, and clinics. The MA program in Speech-Language Pathology and the AuD program in Audiology are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.

The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences offers the following resources:

  • 36 faculty who are among the profession's finest teachers, researchers, and clinicians
  • 16 state-of-the-art laboratories with ongoing research programs in a wide variety of basic and applied areas
  • large speech, language and hearing clinics that serve residents of south-central Indiana and is a training ground for students and a testing ground for clinical research
  • a network of external clinical sites throughout the Midwest to supplement the intensive clinical training provided on-site in Bloomington.

In addition, the department has a chapter of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA), which is recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the National Association of Future Doctors of Audiology (NAFDA). Benefits of membership in NSSLHA include subscriptions to journals and other valuable publications, reduced fees for ASHA-sponsored conferences and workshops, job search assistance, and the opportunity to network with other students in the field.
