Clinical Externships
The final semester of the M.A. program is spent on clinical externships.
- Clinical externship in speech-language pathology:
Students generally spend eight weeks in a public school to meet the
requirements of Indiana teacher certification and eight weeks in a
hospital or rehabilitation setting. Each of these practicum sites
provides 40 hours of clinical work per week.
- Clinical externship in audiology: Students generally
complete a 15-week externship in a hospital or private practice, although
some students pursue public school certification as well.
Those seeking certification in educational audiology also complete
a public school practicum. With approval from the externship coordinator,
the externship placements for students in both speech-language pathology
and audiology can be made most anywhere in the country.
