  • The Center for Teaching International Relations (CTIR) at the University of Denver
    Based at the University of Denver's Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS), CTIR links academic research with community needs by developing internationally-oriented programs and publications to support professional educators. The Web site offers a resource library for teachers; information about both student programs and teacher education; and the CTIR publications catalog of materials on area studies, civics, economics and environment, global issues, reading and writing, art, cultural studies, geography, and history.
     
  • Diversity Database
    From the University of Maryland, this database is a "comprehensive index of multicultural and diversity resources." Particularly useful for planning multicultural and diversity efforts in higher education, the diversity plans and statements, diversity news bureau, diversity reference resources, college/university syllabi, and related materials listed in the database have other applications in education as well.
     
  • East Asian Resources for Students and Teachers
    Compiled by the East Asian Studies Center (EASC) of Indiana University, this site offers lesson plans, teaching guides, background information, links, and other materials for teaching about China, Japan, Korea, and Asia in general.

  • Kidlink
    Kidlink is a non-profit grassroots organization aimed at getting youth through the age of 15 involved in global dialog via public mailing lists, a private network for real-time interactions such as chats, and an on-line art exhibition site. Kidlink is supported by volunteers, mainly teachers and parents; over 100,000 children in 117 countries have participated in Kidlink since it began operation in 1991. This website extensively describes the history and structure of Kidlink and how to join.

    According to their Web site, NECA is a Washington, D.C.-based not-for-profit organization that "promotes peace, justice, and human rights nationwide through critical, anti-racist, multicultural education." The Web site features NECA's catalog of K-12 books, videos and posters for teaching from a social justice perspective; a schedule of workshops, courses, and institutes held for teachers in the Washington, D.C. area; and excerpts from and descriptions of several NECA teaching resources; and links to essays and sites about current events not typically covered by mainstream media.

  • Retanet: Resources for Teaching About the Americas
    An outreach project of the Latin America Data Base (LADB) and a part of the Latin American Institute at the University of New Mexico. RETAnet works with secondary teachers, educational specialists, and scholars to make accessible resources and curriculum materials about Latin America, the Spanish Caribbean, and the U.S. Southwest. A vital component of RETAnet is communications technology using computers and the Internet.
     
  • SPICE (Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education)
    An outreach program of the Institute for International Studies (IIS) at Stanford University, SPICE provides up-to-date curriculum materials on international topics for grades 6-14. The SPICE website consists of an on-line version of the SPICE publications catalog, which includes curricular materials on contemporary world issues, world cultures, world geography, and world history. The site also features the full-text of several free, introductory lesson plans, and the annual newsletter "SPICE Connections."
     
  • Teaching Human Rights Online (THRO)
    The "Educators' Guide" component of this site includes teaching notes for instructors, study guides for students, reports on online simulations and professional development, and a bibliography. The "Case Library" component of this site provides abstracts of abstracts of currently available human rights cases from Bosnia and Rwanda to Burma and India. The site also features a Chat forum.

    This Web site is project of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a national non-profit civil rights organization that promotes tolerance and diversity and combats hate and discrimination through education, investigation and litigation. The site provides news, practical steps and solutions for encouraging tolerance, and engaging exercises that teach and prompt personal soul-searching.
