Matlab Licensing Information

Current Version Information

Matlab is a powerful package for doing numerical computations. It contains programs for solving linear and differential equations and eigenvalue problems. In addition to the basic matrix computation facilities, Matlab comes with a very advanced Graphics engine, and many Toolboxes to deal with the problems in specialized areas such as Signal Processing, Image Processing, Neural Networks, Statistics, and Simulations.

UITS currently leases Matlab licenses for Unix, Windows, and Mac OS X platforms.

License Terms

  • Matlab is available to IU faculty and staff for use on university-owned computers.
  • Students wishing to obtain their own copy of Matlab should contact the vendor directly.
  • Matlab licenses are available for lease on an annual basis. The annual renewal entitles you to any upgrades put out by the vendor at the time you renew your software as well as program maintenance.
  • Toolboxes and blocksets are licensed separately from base Matlab. These are also annual leases. We do not license toolboxes without a Matlab license from us. We currently have licenses for the following:

  • Adding toolboxes to a lease of Matlab at any time other than the initial installation or on the renewal date of July 1 will have a service charge added in addition to the fee for the toolbox.
  • No vendor-produced documentation is included.
