  • How do we define local/sustainable food currently?
  • What challenges and opportunities does purchasing local/sustainable food present?
  • What perceived benefits would a local/sustainable food procurement policy provide?

1:00-1:30 PM — Presentations: Case Studies in Defining and Tracking Local/Sustainable Food 

  • Background and impetus for defining and tracking local/sustainable food
  • Case studies: Emory University, Michigan State University, University of Vermont, University of California Santa Cruz
  • Real Food Challenge: framework, progress and limitations

1:30-2:15 PM — Second Breakout: Where Do We Want to Go?

  • How should we define local/sustainable food on the IUB campus?
  • What would an ideal situation look like?
  • Setting priorities and evaluating the frameworks
  • Based on this definition, how will we track local/sustainable food?
