Competencies Through their involvement in the professional development activities provided by the grant, teacher participants will attain the following competencies:
Ability to instruct ELLs in learning English as a second language within the context of content areas
Ability to scaffold academic and content area instruction for ELLs
Awareness of and ability to create alternative assessment tools in order to record student progress in the acquisition of both content and language
Appreciation and understanding of socio-cultural, linguistic, and cognitive issues relevant in the teaching of ELLs.
