Introduction to T'ai Chi Sword
Spring
2004
Charles
Pearce, Instructor
Course Description
This course introduces students to Master Wm CC Chen's 64 movement T'ai
Chi Ch'uan Sword Form. This form refines the continuous flowing movement
introduced in the T'ai Chi Ch'uan solo form. Students gain practical experience
in the body mechanics of T'ai Chi Ch'uan through the larger, faster movements
of the Sword Form. The use of a handheld object develops the ability to
project kinetic energy from the floor up through the body and to the sword.
This practice continues the meditative technique of T'ai Chi Ch'uan and
develops control of physical focus (strength and movement), as well as
psychological focus (attention and concentration).
Grades
Grades will be determined by in-class performance, paper, midterm and
final exam (both written and performance skills). The written paper is
required in order to pass this class.
- Skills portion of mid-term exam 35%
- Skills portion of final exam 35%
- In-class performance 30%
