Videotape Your Class

Having oneself videotaped during a class is an excellent way to see yourself as your students do. If you would like to do this, you should plan to do both of the following two weeks before the class you want recorded:

  1. Arrange a consultation to discuss your goals for the class to be taped. You can make an appointment or call 855-9023.
  2. Contact Media Production and schedule a videographer to shoot your class for you. You will need to provide them with a standard VHS tape. You can contact Media Production by emailing mediapro@indiana.edu or by calling 855-1983.

After the class, you will meet again with one of our consultants to discuss the class and how well your achieved the goals you set out for yourself. The consultant not only serves as a sounding board for your own thoughts, relating those thoughts to the appropriate research on teaching and learning, but also serves to model a beginning learner in your discipline. Often the jargon and tools of a discipline become invisible to the experienced instructor, and the consultant can serve to identify issues of possible concern to beginning learners in the class.
