Making Your Teaching Visible

Course portfolios, teaching portfolios, online teaching snapshots, and scholarship of teaching and learning presentations and publications capture the intellectual work of teaching so that it can be shared with others. Campus Instructional Consulting offers workshops, working groups, and one-on-one consultations to assist faculty members and graduate students as they document their teaching and their students’ learning.

Course Portfolios

Course portfolios document the intellectual work that goes in to teaching one particular course. Through rich documentation, including evidence of student learning, the wisdom of teaching can be shared and reviewed. Campus Instructional Consulting conducts workshops and facilitates small learning communities of faculty and graduate students writing these portfolios. More information can be found at: http://www.indiana.edu/~deanfac/portfolio/. Or make an appointment with a consultant to talk about creating a course portfolio.

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

Campus Instructional Consulting supports a robust program around the scholarship of teaching and learning. The key assumption behind this kind of scholarship is that learning and teaching are complex activities that benefit from intellectual engagement and inquiry. “SOTL” describes, draws conclusions about, and shares knowledge about how people learn and how teaching practices impact learning.  More information can be found at http://www.indiana.edu/~sotl/. Or make an appointment with a consultant to talk about your own questions about learning and teaching.

Teaching Portfolios

In the current academic job market, new PhDs must demonstrate their teaching credentials to be competitive for many positions. But showing search committees what kind of teacher you are takes thoughtful preparation. Even if you are a year or more away from graduation, it is never too early to start collecting the documentation of your teaching that is needed to support your academic applications. Campus Instructional Consulting conducts campus workshops about what search committees are looking for in your teaching, what evidence to collect to document your teaching effectiveness, and how to organize and present these artifacts of teaching. Or make an appointment with a consultant to talk about creating a teaching portfolio.
