IDEAS FOR UPDATING HOME PAGES

1.  Adding Links

The easiest way to add new links to your page may be to use the bookmark file in Netscape.  Each time you find a site that you like you can select Add Bookmark on the Bookmark menu.  Netscape will then add the URL of the site to your bookmark file.  When you wish to move links that you have bookmarked to your home page do the following:

Now the link should be on your home page.  Notice that by using this method, you never have to type the URL.

2.  Using tables

Tables are useful for many things when you are creating a home page.

Some people like to use tables to organize their links. A table can be used to organize images, and put text next to them.

Try inserting a table to your home page.  Use the Insert menu, select table, and try different options until you find the table you like.

3.  Inserting Images

When you want to add an image to your home page you first need to save the image locally.  In the IU lab that means saving the image in the Temp directory on the C: drive.  If you have found an image that you like on the Internet, you can always choose to save it, whatever you find can be yours.
When the image has been saved locally, you select Image from the Insert menu.  Press the choose file button to locate the image file.  When you have found the file, you press open, then you press OK, and the image should appear on your page.

4.  Changing the Background color

If you want to change the background color on your page, select Document from the Format menu (if using Composer, select Page Colors and Properties from the Format menu).  Then you get a dialog box, which allows you to select a new background color.  Notice that you can also choose to use an image as a background.
