T351 Drama / Storytelling Project
Spring 2008
Your drama / storytelling project includes both pre-production and
production work. Before you shoot any footage, your project must be scripted
and
you must have either a detailed shot list or a storyboard. (Ideally you
will benefit from both.)
Your goal is to tell a story in 3-5 minutes. It should convey some emotion,
(without relying solely on cheesy music). Think of the classic story
structures you studied in T206. A story is structured around some sort
of conflict and has a beginning, middle and end. Films are often broken
down into a three act
structure.
Every
shot
or element in your story should either develop the character or push
the story along.
This project is worth 50 points,
which is broken down as follows:
- 10 points: Pre-production which includes: proposal,
treatment, script, shot sheets & log(s).
- 35 points: Production & editing
- 5 points - Critique
You wll turn in a packet containing:
- Project Proposal (find details here)
with treatment
- Detailed Script (either two-column or drama style with storyboards)
- Footage logs (easy to read, with time code & comments. You should
create a log sheet for each source tape)
- Talent/location releases (copies of originals are OK)
- Miscellaneous supporting material: Production schedule, shot/location
lists, sketches, storyboards etc.
- Master Tape
- Critique
All your materials (excluding footage logs) should be typed and neatly
presented.
