T356 Graphic Exercise
Summary: In lab use Adobe PhotoShop to
create a TV graphic. Then import it into the Chyron and save it
in a folder.
Details: Your graphic should promote a real or fictitious
show. It needs to contain at least one image (from the web or scanned
in) and three different uses of text. It should also adhere to Jim's
Graphic Guidelines.
After making the graphic in lab, save two copies (JPEG and BMP) into your Oncourse
resources folder or onto a flash drive. Then go
to Studio 5 and import it into
the Chyron. After importing it into the Chyron, save it as a page into the
T356/messages folder as your login name. (Mine would be named jarkraus for
example)
So you should:
- Start off by using Photoshop "HD 1920 x 1080 square pixel with guides"
template
- Make your graphic
- Save your original PSD file often
- Save two copies (one JPEG and one BMP) into your Oncourse or flash drive
- Go to Studio 5
- Download your JPG and BMP onto the Apple next to the Chyron and save
it onto a USB drive
- Eject the USB drive and plug it into the Chyron
- Copy the graphic into the T356/graphics folder. MAKE SURE IT'S NAMED
AS YOUR LOGIN NAME!!!!
- Import into Chyron (Import graphic)
- Save as a Chyron file into the T356/messages folder.
It should be called
"your_login_name."
- Call up the graphic on the switcher
- How does it look?
Make sure your graphic meets the following criteria:
- Clearly communicates a message, such as providing the title, time and network.
(Why should viewers tune in? What's it called? When is it on and what network
will air it?)
- Contain an image within the graphic (for example if you are making a promo
for a monster truck rally you could incorporate an image of a truck or a big
wheel)
- Contain at least three different uses of text (for example: show title,
time and network)
- Meet the technical and aesthetic constraints of a video graphic. (Right
file type, proper pixel dimensions, uses the safe text area, attractive appearance,
easy to read text elements, etc.)
If you are unsure about what makes a good TV graphic, read Jim's
graphic tips.
