Announcements/Reality check
Don't forget about the Critical Production
Review Essay. This has to be turned in by Monday, December 10th.
You can email an uncompressed Word Doc to me, or send me a PDF.
Final Exam: The Registrar has scheduled our final exam to start at 12:30
PM, Friday December 14th.
Followup to screening last week. Brent was extremely impressed with
the projects. Nice job class!
Production Meeting
Intros,
segues, and closes for two versions of Small Screen Cinema will take
place this Wednesday during our lab time in Studio 5. Our crew & talent
lineup includes:
- Seth (Producer)
- Cory (Writer of segues)
- Adam (Dir)
- Joshua (DP)
- Matt (audio)
- Jesse (Gaffer)
- Adrienne & John (talent)
If you are needed this Wednesday to re-shoot, we can re-shuffle the
crew list.
Outputting Projects
Remember that Producers and Directors are responsible for making sure
shows are edited as strongly as possible and completed. I do expect
changesa to have been made and care to have gone into the appearance
of titles and credits.
Editors need to export 2 major elements from each project:
- Full-size, self-contained DVCProHD Movie (1080 29.97 - this should
be the same setting that you've been editing your projects with.)
You should include a slate at the beginning followed by at least 5
seconds of black (A countdown is not necessary). At least 5 seconds
of black at the end is also a good idea.
- A Media Managed copy of the project. You can create this within FCP
by doing the following:
- Open project
- Select the final finished sequence(s) in the Browser window (You
can Shift/Apple select to make multple selections)
- With the items selected, choose Media Manager from the drop down
File menu.
- Keep all default settings
- Click on the Browse button in the Media Destination area near
the bottom. Navigate to where you want to store the backup/archive.
(I suggest using the T436 folder on the local hard drive
or outputting it onto an external firewire drive.)
- FCP will prompt you to name the project file. Call it "your project
name"+ _archive. (EG. chickenout_archive)
It's EXTREMELY important that I get all of the final self-contained
Movie clips and the archived projects. (Incompletes until I get them.)
I'll need to actually re-edit some of these to make them fit and to bring
it into legal video limits.
Extra credit opps:
- Compiling all shorts into a single DVD. (Matt?) We do NOT need fancy
graphics- just a nicely encoded anamorphic widescreen, SDTV DVD. Will
need to burn about 30 copies.
- Compiling Word doc of script
(just audio) for closed captioning. (Dan?) Will want a folder with
an uncompressed MS Doc file for each short. (No zipped or .docx files
please.)
- Someone to collect all of the finished edited shorts and archived
projects. (WIll put onto a portable hard drive.) This is a pretty easy/straightforward
task (10 points or so)
- If anyone else wants extra credit you can help compile the programs
into a master program. (I'm planning on doing this, but would welcome
someone else to take this on.) You would need to know FCP very well
and take an incomplete.
Changes for next year:
- Have 2 editors taking the class for 3 credit hours. Would also like
to have a bonafide Sound Designer.
- Thinking of opening class up to actors of all ages. I'd still have
them accountable for lecture materials (journal and quizzes), but they'd
be talent. Not sure how the credit hours would pan out. (Maybe 2 credits)
- I think I'll hand pick more of the stories. We need to scrutinize
them a little more than we did this year. Stories MUST be clear. (Would
still open it up for student-based submissions. But we need to be more
selective.)
- What other suggestions do you have?
Review For Final Exam
Study old quizzes and last few weeks of lecture notes.
Course Evaluation
Need a volunteer to collect these and to take to Corey Harrison. T436
