"My personal interest in telecommunications, and specifically the creation of media programs, is rooted in the ageless art of storytelling. I tell my students that we can look back one hundred years to the beginnings of motion pictures and the invention of radio, but it is more accurate to look at our communication history starting with the first storytellers, minstrels, and bards. The urge to tell stories and to share information and ideas is the core of our humanity.
What fascinates me most is where the campfire ring intersects the arc of expanding technology. Just yesterday, I received an e-mail from Wollogong, Australia. In an instant, less than a blink of an eye, my circle has grown to include a young man way down under. Our dialogue creates a connection from my office at I.U. to the opposite side of our planet! I can't imagine a more exciting time to be exploring the field of telecommunications."
