T351 Multimedia Movie

  • 10 points
  • Due: Monday, June 16th

The goal is to output two versions of any of your projects: One will be posted to YouTube or Vimeo and the other placed in the Production Lab Dropbox. My teaching objective is that you learn to output your video in a specific size and in a specific format (Codec) in the highest quality possible, and so that it displays with the proper aspect ratio.

In order to make the YouTube/Vimeo version, you'll need to create an account if you don't have one already. You'll find "how to" help areas, wihch specify how to upload videos, acceptable files types and file size limits. Once you post it, please send an email with the URL linking to the page.

For the T351 MultimediaEx folder version, please place a 1280 x 720, H.264 version that is no larger than 300MB, saved as your login name. The video should display (Unsqueezed) in the proper aspect ratio and at the proper pixel dimensions.

Tips:

To make the movies: Open up & select your sequence in FCP/Premiere/Media Composer. Make sure all of your video is fully rendered. Be sure to set an "in point" in black before it fades up at the beginning and an "out point" after it fades to black at the end.

QuickTime movie - Select file -> export -> "using quicktime conversion" from the menu. Press the "options" button. Use H.264 as your codec for the QuickTime movie. Make a custom size to match the aspect ratio of your work.

  • For 4x3 (1.33) video you can use 720 x 540, 640x480 or 400x300 (or any dimensions you like as long as you divide the first by the second and get something close to 1.33)
  • For 16x9 (1.78) video you can use 1920x1080, 1280x720 or 640x360 (or any dimensions you like as long as you divide the first by the second and get something close to 1.78)

Be sure to test it before uploading or putting it in the drop box.
