Research Interests

Telecommunications law & policy, international communication, information-distribution networks history, design and implementation, financial industry networks, First Amendment law, comparative speech regulation, state-society relations.

I'm also interested in the French "Minitel" network, the world's first online network to reach mass retail penetration. I co-founded the Minitel Research Lab, USA, the mission of which is to create a comprehensive independent digital Minitel museum and resource center; explore the technical, social, political and legal significance of the Minitel network; and make creative use of the machines to incite critical thinking about network design.
